Less Than a Month Away

The 2nd annual SGT Steven DeLuzio Memorial Golf Tournament is less than a month away. We’re off to a great start with 78 golfers registered, a total of 129 people registered for the banquet, and lots of great raffle and auction prizes to give away. We also have a hole-in-one prize – a new Toyota from Hartford Toyota!

But we still need some help.

We’re over the half way mark, but would like to maximize the number of golfers playing in the tournament. If you know of anyone interested in playing in the tournament, please let them know about it.

They can register online by clicking here, or by calling Scott DeLuzio at 860-930-5304.

Thanks everyone, we’re looking forward to another great day this year!

2nd Annual SGT Steven DeLuzio Wooden Bat Game

This coming Memorial Day, Monday May 28th, will be the Second Annual SGT Steven DeLuzio Wooden Bat Game. It will be held at Ross Field (4 Canione Road) in Glastonbury shortly following the town’s Memorial Day parade and Hubbard Green ceremony.

The game’s two teams will be made up of one to two players from each of the town’s Major league teams. Players are selected by their coaches for their athleticism and good sportsmanship.

Prior to the game, there will be a ceremony with special guest speakers, and the presentation of the 2012 SGT Steven DeLuzio Little League Scholarship to this year’s winner.

Please join us this Memorial Day to remember a hero at a fun game, and support Glastonbury Little League.

If you are unable to attend, but would like to view the pre-game ceremony and/or the game itself, it will be broadcast over the internet. To view the game, please visit www.glastonburylittleleague.org, and click the “Ross Field TV” box on the right hand side of the screen, or click here.

Registrations Now Open – 2nd Annual Memorial Golf Tournament

To honor Steven’s memory, the SGT Steven J. DeLuzio Memorial Golf Tournament raises funds for scholarships and an annual donation to a military charity made in Steven’s name. We will be announcing which military charity we will be making the 2012 donation to in the coming weeks.

The first annual tournament had an outstanding attendance. We reached our max capacity of 144 golfers, and nearly maxed out our capacity at the dinner banquet, which followed the tournament.

This year, the 2nd annual SGT Steven DeLuzio Memorial Golf Tournament, is scheduled for Monday, August 20, 2012 at the Glastonbury Hills Country Club. All proceeds will go to benefit the SGT Steven J. DeLuzio Memorial Fund.

Golf and banquet fees are the same as last year: $175 per golfer, and $75 per non-golfer banquet registration.

Sponsorship levels this year are $250 (Bronze), $500 (Silver), and $1,000 (Gold).

Hartford Courant Series on 9/11 Attacks, Ten Years Later

The Hartford Courant is doing a series on the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on the United States.

On the one-year anniversary of the death of Scott Deluzio's brother Steven (right), Scott attends a memorial golf tournament to raise money for a foundation the family set up in Steven's name that provides scholarships.
(Mark Mirko, Hartford Courant / August 22, 2011)

For one of the articles they interviewed me to try and get a sense of why I joined the military, the sequence of events leading from the pre-9/11 world we once knew, to September 11, 2011, the tragic events on August 22, 2010, and through to the present day.

The article, written by Courant reporter Matt Kauffman, is titled “Called To Service After 9/11” starts with the sentence:

“Scott Deluzio back in Glastonbury, essentially the same person he was 10 years ago, but everything has changed.”
