It is the mission of the SGT Steven J. DeLuzio Memorial Scholarship Fund to keep his spirit alive through scholarships and charitable donations. In memory of Steven DeLuzio, a donation was made in his memory to the Wounded Warrior Project.
Attendees of the Memorial Golf Tournament this past August helped contribute to the SGT Steven J. DeLuzio Memorial Fund, which made this donation in his memory.
The Wounded Warrior Project’s purpose is to:
To raise awareness and enlist the public’s aid for the needs of injured service members.
To help injured service members aid and assist each other.
To provide unique, direct programs and services to meet the needs of injured service members.
For one of the articles they interviewed me to try and get a sense of why I joined the military, the sequence of events leading from the pre-9/11 world we once knew, to September 11, 2011, the tragic events on August 22, 2010, and through to the present day.
The first annual SGT Steven DeLuzio Memorial Golf Tournament is nearing max capacity for golfers. We have reached our currently at 143 golfers, and will no longer be accepting registrations online. If you did not get to register to golf, but still want to attend, there is one spot remaining. Please call Scott DeLuzio at 860-930-5304 to register. There are still about 70 spots remaining for the banquet dinner after the tournament. Registration for the banquet can still be done online.
Thank you to all who have helped to make this year’s tournament a success!
The first annual SGT Steven DeLuzio memorial golf tournament is less than three weeks away! If you plan on golfing, or know someone who is planning to golf, but haven’t registered yet please do so soon. As of today (August 2), there are only 26 spots remaining for golfers. Once all 144 spots have been filled we will no longer be accepting registrations for this year’s tournament. We also have to give our final number to the golf course the week prior to the tournament, so please try to register before then.
The deadline for pre-ordering shirts for the golf tournament is fast approaching.
Anyone who is planning on purchasing a shirt prior to the tournament needs to do so before this Monday, July 25, 2011. We need to provide the total pre-order shirt number to the embroiderer on Monday, so if you would like to put an order for a specific size we need it in by then.
We will have a limited selection of shirts available to purchase on the day of the tournament, however we can’t guarantee that we will have a particular size unless it is pre-ordered by Monday.
The Connecticut 2011 Run for the Fallen will be held this year on Saturday July 9, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the Glastonbury High School.
The Run for the Fallen event started on Flag Day, June 14, 2008 where team members ran one mile for every Soldier, Sailor, Airmen, and Marine killed in Operation Iraqi Freedom. The run stretched across the country from Fort Irwin, CA to Arlington National Cemetery.
2010 was the first annual Run for the Fallen in CT, where $5,000 was raised to support the Wounded Warrior Project. This year, the CT Run for the Fallen will run 58 miles – one for each of Connecticut’s fallen heroes, with hopes to contribute even more to the Wounded Warrior Project, Fisher House Foundation, and the Connecticut Patriot Guard Riders.
On July 9, 2011 at 2:00 AM a small group of runners will start the 58 mile run from the Veterans Memorial Park in Sterling, CT and will finish at the Glastonbury High School track. The team will arrive at the high school around 2:00 PM and will complete one lap on the track.
Registration is free, and runners can show up at the high school to run/walk as much as they would like. Runners can also collect donations before and during the event, or ask people to send a check made payable to:

The 1st annual SGT Steven DeLuzio Memorial Golf Tournament is just 2 months away. We’re off to a great start with 78 golfers registered, a total of 119 people registered for the banquet, and lots of great raffle prizes to give away. We also have a great hole-in-one prize – a new Ford Mustang!
But we still need some help.
We’re over the half way mark, but would like to maximize the number of golfers playing in the tournament. If you know of anyone interested in playing in the tournament, please let them know about it.
They can register online by clicking here, or by calling Scott DeLuzio at 860-930-5304.
The approach. The concentration. The swing. The clack of the club hitting the ball crisply. With wide eyes there is the hope and anticipation…then disbelief. A hole in one! Few things are more amazing for a golfer to achieve than an ace.
Unless of course the prize for such an accomplishment is a NEW Ford Mustang!
That’s right, for the first annual SGT Steven J. DeLuzio Memorial Golf Tournament, the prize for hitting a hole in one on the 11th hole will be a Ford Mustang, provided by Monaco Ford in Glastonbury, CT.
A hole in one on any of the other par 3’s will be eligible for winning one of the following prizes: choice of a Nike SQ Sumo 5000 driver, or a set of Nike Victory Full Cavity Irons (3-PW), a Bose Wave Music System, or a $500 Visa gift card.
Register now for the tournament and your shot at winning one of these great prizes!
